Data science has become a pivotal force in the ongoing technological revolution, serving as the bridge between a data-scarce past and a future dominated by intelligent systems.
The Master of Data Science (MDS) program is designed to develop deep expertise in modern data science techniques. By integrating core principles from both Statistics and Computer Science, our program equips students with the essential skills needed to excel in an era defined by artificial intelligence.
Candidates can choose between a full-time (15-month) or part-time (24-month) pathway, both taught by distinguished faculty members and researchers with extensive experience in data science. The curriculum focuses on hands-on training in areas such as applied probability, mathematical statistics, statistical modeling, computing, machine learning, data management, visualization, and artificial intelligence.
Official TOEFL or IELTS (International applicants – Scores valid for two years)
All graduate applicants are required to demonstrate English proficiency for admissions consideration, except those who have earned an undergraduate degree from an institution where English was the sole language of instruction, as verified by the World Higher Education Database. If English is not listed as the sole language of instruction, or if no language is specified, the waiver does not apply, and the applicant must take and pass an approved English proficiency test, such as the TOEFL or IELTS.
According to UCI Graduate Division, the minimum acceptable TOEFL score for admission is 80 on the Internet-based test. TOEFL scores are valid for up to two years from the test date.
As an alternative to the TOEFL, you may also take the Academic Modules of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). For the IELTS, the minimum required score for admission is 7, with a score of no less than 6 on any individual module.
